VICTORIA - where else but the world famous Bells Beach...home of the Rip Curl pro event at Easter. The longest running event in competitive surfing, The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach is an iconic stop on The World Surf League Championship Tour. As the legend goes,“You’ve got to win it to ring it!” Unfortunately in 2020, the best surfers in the world won't get the chance to ring their way into history. However, right now you can travel there and plenty of other great locations along the Victorian coast including the spectacular Great Ocean Road. Here is a list of the top ten best Victorian surfing breaks ....don't forget your wetsuit !

NSW - Sandon Point Bulli just north of Wollongong for a spectacular point break ...only suitable for the experienced surfer as it breaks on a headland facing the rocks...Cowries at Shellharbour is also a great place for photo opportunities but dangerous for the novice....try the marine park surfing reserve listed Killalea Beach (colloquially known as "The Farm") nearby for a favoured gentle beach break. The Farm works best in summer when NE winds prevail and hopefully a swell from the south.. plenty of options there for experienced guys down the southern end and smaller waves for beginners at the northern end...showing my age but I can vividly remember when you actually paid 20c to the farmers daughter at the real farm gate just west of the northern end and you could actually park right next to the beach....those were the days :)

National Surfing Reserves are 'iconic' places of intrinsic environmental, heritage, sporting and cultural value.Top beaches in NSW that have also been named National Surfing Reserves are:-

QLD - has always been a favourite on every southern surfer's bucket list.Never ending sunshine and an array of beach and point breaks to choose from along a stretch of coastline beginning at Coolangatta and stretching 44 kilometres to the north.Beyond that the Great Barrier Reef prevents much surf action from eventuating. The most preferred destination for surfers in QLD is the Gold Coast for perfect waves and perfect times !

Here's a list of the best Gold Coast surfing spots.

WA - has the most coastline of any state in Australia with over 12,000 kilometres of pristine waters. You'll find plenty to do and see here with an endless array of beach and reef breaks.Get the best tips on WA beaches and surf spots hereThe biggest waves in Australia can be found at Cow Bombie, about 2km offshore. It's certainly not for the faint hearted and one for the seasoned pro only. Margaret River (about 3 hours south of Perth) whilst famous for it's vineyards it is also famous for it's surf with pro surfing competitions held here. Just north of Margaret River is Yallingup with reputably the best lineup of surf breaks in WA. There are surf breaks in the Margaret River region for every level of surfer.
